The Keystone Center seeks to solve our society's most challenging environmental, energy and public health problems. We bring together today's public, private and civic sector leaders to confront these issues and we arm the next generation with the 21st Century intellectual and social skills required to effectively approach the questions they will face. Founded in 1975 by Robert W. Craig, The Center is a non-profit organization headquartered in Keystone, Colorado with offices in Washington, DC and Denver, CO.
All of The Keystone Center's programs share a commitment to non-biased, science-based inquiry. The two divisions that make up The Keystone Center are:
The Center for Science and Public Policy (SPP) convenes leaders in the public, private, and civic sectors to solve problems and advance good public policy through neutral, independently organized, and well-managed discussions. In a society faced with increasingly complex issues, we are proud to be a leader in facilitating collaborative scientific and policy deliberations. Assisted by expert science, careful convening, and skilled process design and management, we promise cooperative solutions with an eye towards creating enduring agreements and improved relationships through dialogue and consensus-based decision making. The results of this exciting and challenging work are tangible actions, new partnerships, and reduced conflict. SPP staff emulate this collaborative process with high school students through the Youth Policy Summit program, providing students with the opportunity to acquire the skills that will allow them to excel in their professional and civic endeavors.
Keystone Science School (KSS) is a residential field science school that challenges students to develop critical thinking skills as they explore nature and science education. Making extensive use of the outdoor laboratory around us, we promote scientific inquiry and cultivate sensitivity to the natural environment. Keystone Science School offers School, Camp and Community Programs on their campus in Keystone, Colorado. In addition, KSS runs teacher professional development programs across the U.S. with a focus on interdisciplinary education, critical thinking, and sustainability.
