June 9-16, 2012 • Program Fee: $600
Participants must cover their own airfare to and from Denver International Airport.
*This program is ONLY open to students who attend a NCSSSMST member high school.
As a YPS partner since our founding in 2004, we offer a Summit specifically for NCSSSMST member schools every year at Keystone Science School in our hometown of Keystone, Colorado. In the past, students have attended this Summit in student-teacher teams, and this year the program is open to NCSSSMST individuals and teams with or without a teacher chaperone. Demands for electricity are increasing, and the current energy gri in the United States is fast becoming outdated. Not only will we require an increased capacity for safe, efficient transmission, but we will also need to integrate emerging technologies and renewable sources into the current infrastructure. Participants will explore different energy sources, transmission and siting issues, new technologies and what is required to sustainably grow and update the energy infrastructure in the US.
Keystone Science School provides the perfect setting for students to engage in YPS and participate in outdoor leisure activities and programming. Living in modern cabins on the KSS campus, students will have the opportunity to explore the Rockies while learning about energy infrastructure issues and deliberating solutions for the future. As our longest standing program, this one often fills up fast! Students will fly in and out of Denver International Airport, and TKC will provide group transportation to KSS.
