TKC is thrilled to bring YPS back to Alabama for the third year in a row! This summer, we are partnering with the Office of Sustainability and the Truman Pierce Institute at Auburn University to offer a YPS program on Water Resources. As rural and urban residents alike experience the impacts of the drought-flood cycle in the Southeast, the multiple demands on freshwater continue to increase. In addition to maintaining a supply of clean, safe drinking water, regulators must balance the needs of industry, agriculture and tourism in a sustainable way. Participants will work to find common interests among the different stakeholders and craft a set of policy recommendations.
Auburn University is the perfect setting for this topic, as the campus boasts state of the art stream restoration expertise, an internationally recognized citizen water monitoring program, the Alabama Water Watch/Global Water Watch based out of their Fisheries Department and more. Students will live in dorms on the Auburn campus, with YPS staff and student Resident Advisors providing supervision and program activities. Students will not only benefit from Auburn's expertise and resources on water issues, but will also have a chance to go on a campus tour and talk to current students about the Auburn college experience.
